I Am Entering My Commitment Stage

I consider my basic Learning and Discovery sufficiently complete to have established a direction.

There is much I still need to learn. But I am no longer searching in the same way for what I wish to do with my life.

I now see myself entering the Commitment stage.

Some people may arrive at this point much earlier. I am arriving here at around sixty-five. That is the life I have lived, with the experiences, mistakes and understanding it has brought me.

My direction is now clear to me. I wish to pursue Peace, Happiness, Quality of Life and Longevity, while undertaking work and activities I consider worthwhile.

The task ahead is to give that direction a dependable form.

I have identified thirteen dimensions of my life that deserve attention. They include my personal wellbeing and relationships, my learning and practical capabilities, and the work through which I wish to contribute.

I intend to work in five-year blocks. In the first, from sixty-five to seventy, I would like each dimension to reach a satisfactory and sustainable level.

I think of that as seven out of ten. Frankly, seven would be good enough for my life.

Commitment will therefore involve choosing priorities, following through, and accepting that time and energy have limits. My methods will need adjustment as I discover what works in everyday practice.

Legacy can begin within this effort. Recording an experience, sharing knowledge or helping another person become capable gives something a chance to continue beyond me.

For now, I have a direction I have consciously chosen. I would like the years ahead to show what I am prepared to do with it.
