Twelve Skills I Want to Practise

I can have a clear purpose and worthwhile intentions, yet struggle to act effectively. What capabilities would help me bridge that distance?

I find the following twelve skills useful as a working framework.

Critical Thinking helps me examine assumptions, question explanations and consider what the evidence supports.

Communication involves expressing what I mean and listening carefully enough to understand another person.

Creativity helps me imagine possibilities and find alternatives when a familiar approach is unsuitable.

Collaboration concerns working with others towards an agreed purpose, recognising what each person can contribute.

Information Literacy helps me find, assess and use information, including recognising what still needs verification.

Media Literacy encourages me to examine how a message is presented, who produced it, and what it may be trying to achieve.

Technology Literacy involves understanding and using tools appropriately, with attention to their limitations.

Flexibility helps me adjust a method when circumstances change or experience reveals a better approach.

Leadership includes accepting responsibility, giving direction and helping others become capable.

Initiative means recognising a useful next step and being willing to begin.

Productivity concerns completing worthwhile work with the time, energy and resources available.

Social Skills help me navigate relationships with consideration, judgement and respect for boundaries.

These skills overlap. Resolving a practical difficulty may require several at once.

I do not regard this as a complete list of everything a person needs. It gives me a manageable framework for examining my own capability.

The question is how these words become visible in what I do.
