What Does Living Well Include?
The seven aspects through which I examine how well I am living.
HOLISTIC WELLBEING - CARING FOR THE WHOLE OF LIFE

What Does Living Well Include?
When I ask myself whether I am living well, physical health is an obvious place to begin. But the answer needs to include more of my life.
I may feel physically capable while remaining troubled in my mind. Work may be progressing while relationships receive little attention. Financial security may coexist with a lack of meaning.
I therefore find it useful to examine seven aspects of wellbeing.
Physical wellbeing concerns how I care for my body through movement, food, rest and attention to health. I want the capability to participate in the life I value.
Intellectual wellbeing means keeping my mind engaged. Learning, questioning and trying to understand unfamiliar ideas give curiosity a place in my day.
Emotional wellbeing involves recognising what I feel and examining how I respond. I would like to understand my emotions without expecting myself to remain cheerful or composed at every moment.
Spiritual wellbeing, in my understanding, concerns meaning and my sense of belonging within existence. My belief that I am part of Nature gives me a foundation from which to reflect on life.
Social wellbeing concerns companionship, affection, mutual respect and connection. It includes how I participate in other people’s lives and the space we allow one another.
Occupational wellbeing concerns the place work occupies in my life. Is it useful, manageable and consistent with responsibilities I can honour?
Financial wellbeing involves understanding my resources and obligations, meeting essential needs, and gradually creating room to make choices with greater peace of mind.
These aspects interact. A difficulty in one can place demands on several others. Equally, improving one may help me attend to another.
I do not expect them all to be equally strong at every point. They give me a fuller set of questions to ask.
How am I living—and which part of my life needs attention now?
