When I Stepped Away
Loss, a sabbatical and life as a digital nomad opened a period of reconsideration.
MY STORY -MIDDLE AGE

When I Stepped Away
There came a period when I felt I had lost everything.
Those few words hold experiences I will return to gradually. For now, they mark a turning point in my story.
I went on a sabbatical and travelled as a digital nomad. Away from familiar surroundings, I began reconsidering the life I had lived and the thinking I had carried through it.
What had I been pursuing? How much of it had I consciously chosen? What did I actually want from the life still available to me?
Travel did not provide a ready answer. I remained the person carrying the questions. But this period gave me an opportunity to look at them differently.
My attention gradually moved towards Peace, Happiness, Quality of Life and Longevity. These became the aspirations against which I wanted to examine my choices.
I also began to understand my journey through Learning, Discovery, Commitment and Legacy. I had spent many years learning and discovering, sometimes through consequences I would never have chosen.
What would I now commit myself to?
That question began giving direction to a period that had started with loss.
